My Grandad, love Ani

From day one, those pushchair walks and scooter rides. To those freezing riverbanks and glorious sunny mornings at Dorney. Grandad, you were always by my side cheering me on, your voice hailing above all. Your trust in Ford cars, love of welsh rugby, rowing and more, I feel privileged to have shared these with you and will forever cherish the bond we created. Our half time phone calls where you would either be delighted with the performance or we would discuss the many ways we could run that team better (for the record I think we would have done a cracking job). I only wish we could have had one more.

Sat in the very back and highest row of the principality stadium, you with your green jacket on, blue lips, hugging a pasty and a cup of tea. Showing just how young you were when you ran for the train at Cardiff. You meeting Tom. Being on the bank when I raced at Cardiff bay (when everyone else scuppered off to Malta) and trying that burger with me. Carrying my blades for me at Walton, Omelette and chips up the reservoir. The joy in your face when we would discuss Australia and New Zealand, when I rang you and told you I had got a first in my degree. And the final ‘many happy returns’ on my 22nd birthday. You gave me so much joy, so many memories and I will be forever grateful.

You took me under your wing and made me the young woman I am today, or as you would say ‘your little girl’ and I will do everything in my power to make you a proud man up there.
Please watch over me, be my guardian angel keeping me on track and know that when I walk down that isle or hold your great grandchildren you will always be in my heart and I will have you standing right there next to me.
